Today’s the 30th anniversary of the original Game Boy from Nintendo. With that said, we decided to shoutout our favorite GameBoy games.

5. Kirby Dreamland

Kirby’s Dream Land was a great intro to our pink, round friend who according to multiple gamers, was originally white on the US version of the cover art because Nintendo was undecided on what color he should be. Eventually, they came around to the conclusion that he should pink. Makes sense.

Anyway, KDL uses a lot of the same gameplay schemes that a lot of Game Boy games used (linear stages you battle through with handy items around to help along the way). But what separated Kirby from the pack was the character; From the beginning, Kirby had attributes that conventional Nintendo characters didn’t have: Heck, he could even swallow enemies (and later take their powers too). Although the game is super short it’s a fun one to try out and

4. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Has anyone beaten a Zelda game yet? If so, it probably took a while and it was filled with lots of puzzles. That’s not slight to the Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, in fact, it helps to display its strengths. And while newer iterations of Zelda make for a lengthy adventure, Link’s awakening can be beaten in no time at all, and it’s one of best selling TLOZ games of all time.

3. Donkey Kong

Created by Shigeru Miyamoto, enough can’t be said about Donkey Kong, and in many ways it’s like the #2 game on our list (don’t peek ahead) — Donkey Kong was a fun arcade game that was part board game, part puzzle with the main character lobbing objects and jumping up ladders. It’s more than enough fun to pass time even in an era where the Fortnite’s of the world are killing the game space.

2. Super Mario Land

The original Super Mario Land was a marvel in the gaming world when it dropped in 1989. While the graphics leave a lot to be desired, the gameplay is stimulating and challenging to beat. Many GameBoy fans think that Super Mario Land was overrated (as Nintendo relied mostly on the Pokemon series to expand its lifespan)

1. Pokemon Red & Blue

By far the most iconic game franchise to ever on Gameboy is Pokemon Red/Blue. It forever changed the Pokemon world forever and to this day remains a favorite for those with Game Boy emulators and nostalgia addicts alike. Pokemon took the RPG world by storm and followed with a string of hit games including Yellow, and Gold/Silver later down the road.

Props to Nintendo for introducing the Game Boy to the world. Some of the best videogame franchises ever debuted on that console and they continue to change the gaming world today. Anyway, that’s all from us at Snobhop. Time to finish beating Breath of the Wild.
